Motorcycle Boots Article from Rallye Motoplex

In the world of motorcycle gear, it’s common to overlook one important piece of gear: the right footwear. You need more than just sturdy closed-toed shoes. You need motorcycle boots tailored to meet all the needs of a rider. We created a beginner’s guide to motorcycle boots below. For all your motorcycle needs, visit Rallye Motoplex. We proudly serve Moncton, Saint John, and Bathurst, New Brunswick.

Why You Need Motorcycle Boots

No one tries to ride a motorcycle barefoot. It’d be unbearably uncomfortable! There’s the hot engine heat against bare skin, kicked-up debris that can scratch you, spray from other motorists that can get you cold and wet, and so on.

But riding in meager flip-flops or worn-down sneakers isn’t too much of a step up from riding barefoot. These won’t offer much in the way of protection, comfort, or even grip. In the event of a crash, it won’t be enough to guard your skin against the unforgiving pavement.

You need something more sturdy. Motorcycle boots are specially designed for motorcycle riders. Their soles are made to grip the motorcycle. Their materials are designed to protect against a crash. They will give you the best coverage and experience hands down.

Some people want to kill two birds with one stone and use their work boots as riding boots. The problem is work boots aren’t tailored for bike riding. They are better than tennis shoes, but they still can’t deliver everything that motorcycle boots can (such as reinforced toes for easy shifting, slip resistance for easy riding, etc).

Your Type of Motorcycle

Your riding experience changes depending on which type of motorcycle you ride. This, in turn, affects what you need from motorcycle riding boots. If you ride dirt bikes, look for a motocross boot. These are versatile for all the types of terrain you encounter on those off-roads.

With touring motorcycles, you’ll be embarking on long rides. Comfort is the priority here. No one wants to spend part of their trip suffering through uncomfortable footwear. There are ways to gain comfort without sacrificing protection. Find boots that use breathable liners, temperature regulation material, and removable footbeds.

Cruisers are ideal for riding top speeds on the highway. You encounter risks from other motorists to hidden potholes. You’ll want boots made to withstand pavement in the event of a collision.

Riding Boots Features

You can get basic riding boots that offer the protection you need. Or you can pay a little more to get some perks. Keep your boots dry in the rain with waterproof materials. Get dressed quick and easy with zippered boots. Be more visible at night with reflectivity. Protect your shoes with oil resistant and stain resistant material.

Finding the Right Fit

Just like with any other shoe, you need a good fit for them to be enjoyable to wear. Riding boots are pretty similar to other shoes. You’ll want to be able to wiggle your toes around. Your toes shouldn’t press against the end of the boot. There shouldn’t be any pinching sensations. It’s better for your boots to be slightly loose than slightly tight.

It may take some time trying on shoes before you find the right pair. Once you do, you will want to break them in. Wear them around your house or while running errands. After about a week or so, you’ll be able to wear them on a ride.
